I own and for 19 years I brokered cars for people around the country through various dealerships, including my own. I sold vehicles out of my own car dealership that was called and it was a unique “boutique” car dealer in Lone Tree, Colorado. I branded myself The Cool Car Guy back in 2005 when I first started selling vehicles professionally.  For almost two decades I sold millions of dollars in vehicles and I have watched technology make it easier for dealers and consumers to find and purchase vehicles.

In 2005, I was delivering a new vehicle for a client of mine who was a high-powered executive for a company. She invited me to meet her at a nice restaurant in Denver, CO to deliver her vehicle.  I showed up ready to have her sign for her new car, go over the features with her and be off to my next appointment.  I didn’t know that when I showed up she was giving a presentation to a large group of women who worked with her.  She stopped in the middle of the meeting, looked over at me, along with everyone else and said, “Ladies, this is John Boyd and he’s my cool car guy.  If you need a vehicle, you need to call the cool car guy.”

The name stuck and at that moment I became The Cool Car Guy.  Her referrals started calling me The Cool Car Guy.  I went an bought the domain, and branded myself.  All of my business going forward was repeat and referral and I was very selective on who I wanted to work with to help them get a vehicle.  I did this for 19 years from 2005 to 2024, almost to the day that I started.

My wife Becky and I moved to New Mexico from Colorado in 2021 and after running the dealership long distance with a team of consultants delivering vehicles to my clients and theirs, I decided it was time in 2024 to shut down the dealership and take in a new direction.

I wanted to do something different and that was unique to the automotive industry that could leverage my years of expertise in buying, selling, trading and leasing vehicles.  Unlike most dealerships that carry inventory, sold vehicles one relationship at a time.  Kind of like how classified advertising works.  You look and inspect one vehicle at a time and you’re not buying a fleet of vehicles at once like a Used Car Manager is for their inventory.

I‘m 57 years old and I bought my first vehicle when I was 15 before I got my license.  I’ve been personally buying, selling, trading and leasing vehicles for over 40 years.  I love cars, I love driving and I have a ton of stories to share on my YouTube channel based on selling millions of dollars worth of vehicles and spending a fortune fixing them as well.  I look forward to creating new stories in the automotive world with this new direction.

Before you can do anything on you need to sign-up for an account.

I didn’t want to create an auction website like Ebay, BringATrailer, etc.  This is more like a Craigslist that is vehicle specific and since I charge a fee and I’m not just letting people list their crap cars on my website you should be able to negotiate with the seller and get it at a fair price for both parties.

I have bought vehicles at dealer auctions for years, I’ve been to the television auctions and what these companies charge to “handle” a transaction is nuts.  You’re not getting a better deal either because a vehicle is worth what it’s worth.  If someone is willing to pay you more for your vehicle than what you have it advertised for, you have it underpriced to begin with because people who know a specific vehicle know beforehand what they are willing to pay.

I have a variety of ways built into our system for people to promote their ads, but I decided to keep it an even playing field for now for all of our advertisers to participate.

In the future I may offer some additional advertising promotions that might include the following.  These features are turned off for now, but here is a list of potential future promotion opportunities.

  1. Bump Up Ad ( this will update creation date while expire time remains and can be used only once per ad )
  2. Highlight Ad ( this will make your ad stand out from others in listing )
  3. Top Ad ( make your add in the first XX positions of listing as well as in it’s regualar listing position )
  4. Urgent Ad ( display urgent ribon on ad box )
  5. Home Map Ad ( have your ad appear on landing page )

I highly recommend that you link your listing to your accounts on social media to gain more exposure and share your ads with others to gain more traction for your vehicle listing.

From dropdown you are selecting general location of your advert while selecting it on the map you are being more precise. Also if the location search of the marketplace is set to geolocation, people who search by location will find your ad easier. Location Search of the marketplace can also be set as list of predefined values in which case value from the dropdown is being used. is built around a “Keep It Simple” advertising Marketplace:

  • Ad Packages

At I’ve created a Subscription based advertising package that is $249, $499, $999 or $1,499 for the entire year to list and promote your vehicle for sale.  The advertising package is based on the sales price of the vehicle being sold.  Someone selling a customized 1968 Baja Bug for $29,000 shouldn’t be paying the same to advertise their vehicle as someone selling a $290,000 2023 Aston Martin DBS

In order to retrieve phone number of the seller go to the seller’s profile page or any of their ads and you will notice a block with their phone number, if it’s listed.  You can also email or text them, if they are not providing their phone number.

If you wish to start messaging conversation with the seller first create an account. Once you have created your account navigate to any of their ads and you will notice a button for sending a message. List of your messages is available on your profile. There you have AJAX messaging system where you will be able to continue conversations.

One of the benefits of our sellers paying to list their vehicles on is that if people have to pay to use the service.  This limits the number of “scammers” who prey on people on free classified ad websites.  The person must have a PayPal account to join and they will have paid $249 to $1,499 for the year to use the website.  In addition, not every vehicle is accepted for listing.

Check their seller rating from other buyers and sellers.

There are two types of reviews – buyer and seller. First step is to register on our marketplace. Next you need to send a message to a seller. Once the seller responds to your message you will be able to review seller and in the same time seller will be able to review you.

When users visit your profile they will be able to see your overall review , complete list of your reviews and to filter them by type.

Once you post review it can not be changed. Also seller and you have option to respond to review.

If you have found an ad which you want to visit later or contact seller later, etc. you can mark it as Favorite and it will be saved to the list of your favorite ads, which you can access from your profile dashboard.

If you feel that the ad is breaking some rules, you can report it directly from ad page by clicking on the Report button and writing detail reason. Ad will remain active until administrator checks it out.  Please provide details, so that the seller can be contacted and the ad can be verified by our staff.

There are many free sites on the Internet.  There is also an old saying that is quite true and it is this, “You get what you pay for.”  Most free websites are driven by annoying advertising sales to take  you away from their websites. They also always have a catch where you pay more on the backend, so it’s not really free is it? has been around and selling vehicles for 19 years.  The Cool Car Guy doesn’t work for free and he doesn’t need the practice.  We have invested a great deal of time and money to create this websites for people to use as a unique channel driven classified advertising system for cars that are curated, so that it has unique and cool cars available for sale.

There is another saying that is common among people in the car business, “Nice cars are not cheap and cheap cars are not nice.” .  There are plenty of car related websites online and there are about 275 million vehicles in the United States.  There are plenty of classified ad sites with unscrupulous dealers and crooks selling crap.  Even some of the supposedly “high-end” auctions that I have been too are great at “putting lipstick on a pig” and selling cars that look better on television than they actually are.

It’s free to the Buyer to purchase a vehicle, we’re not charging the Buyer anything, it’s just a listing fee for the Seller and if it doesn’t sell in a year, without adjust the price of the vehicle the price was more than likely too high.  How do I know this?  Because “There is a butt for every seat.” and if you look at any classic, custom or high-end car there is usually someone out there who is looking for it at the right price.
